I am using the relay browser in Mafia. I am doing the lower chamber using ratchets. After each ratchet I refresh the screen so I can make sure I get my token and bomb, which I do. Then I use the final 3 ratchets, again checking each time. When I get to the screen where I blow up the rocks, I click on it, but get the message about trying to move the rocks by hand. What I see on the screen is the empty chamber on the left and the pile of rocks on the right. I no longer have a bomb. Here is the output from the CLI

I tried logging out of mafia and logging back in without it, that was no help. I tried clicking where Ed's Chamber should be, no help. Any ideas on what the hell when wrong?

Seems like the game messed up. For what it's worth, I had quite a bit of lag today on www5.

Possibly there could have been a timeout with the database. It could be two operations like this: The bomb gets deleted from your inventory table, then Ed's chamber is marked as accessible for the final fight. If there is a timeout in between these two operations, that could explain why you have no bomb left, but still no access.

I got a response from the Multi Czar

"You'll need to take that up with the Mafia support team. It is not a KoL issue."

I went ahead and got more ratchets and completed the quest, which worked fine this time.

I don't have anything particularly constructive to add here. Having said that, the use of the ratchets is one of the few instances in which I take an anti-mafia position.

I too was burned once. Can't say why (it was quite likely user error). But I find that messing up the wheel turns to be one of the more demoralizing setbacks in the game.

Yeah, ever since Russ's troubles, I've done ratchets manually...

Though now I use Mr. Script's "use ratchet" link at the pyramid, which takes you back there after using it. It hasn't screwed up for me...yet Razz

Lesson learned I guess, I'll log out and do the ratchets manually after this. Russ' problem seems very similar. My session log is missing adventure 811 which is where I should have blown up the rubble pile.

Were you using the CLI for using the ratchets? I've never had problems with just using the relay browser for mafia.

Also, boo to refarming ratchets, that sucks Sad

I was using the ratchets in the relay browser, I just posted the CLI to show that I actually did everything in the correct order. The session logs show the same thing that the CLI does...there is a missing adventure in there.

Yeah, this is why I bind /rat to /count tomb ratchet in relay chat, so that after using the ratchets in CLI I count them again just to be safe.

I use ratchets in Mafia, but always check the correct image is showing (and double check in the wiki which image it is), and click it manually.

I'm paranoid about screwing up the pyramid, though I never actually have. Actually, I'm paranoid about screwing up the whole L11 quest. I've certainly burnt a ton of advs in the wrong desert/oasis location for the next bit to happen... Sad

In the mafia forum, Bale suggests that I must have accidentally clicked on the lower chamber and had my bomb stolen by rats, as that is the only thing that explains the results. I don't know how though. I was typing /use ratchet in the chat pane and then clicking the container envelope in the left pane to refresh the pyramid and see where I was at. Then when I saw I had empty chamber/pile of rubble I clicked the lower chamber. I never saw a message about the rats stealing my bomb and it doesn't explain why there is a missing adventure in the Mafia logs. Oh well, chalk it up to experience and move on I guess.

Hm, using ratchets in the relay browser has always worked for me. I hadn't noticed that adventure #811 was not recorded at all. So something did not work 100% in KoLmafia.

Have not encountered the issue but I suspect the root might me the /use ratchet bit. I manually click them from my inventory in the relay browser and then use last adventure to check the image.

Your problem seems even stranger than w4o's. I'm pretty sure that what happened in his case is that mafia / kol timed out when he clicked on the image that should have given him a bomb, and never got one. But you do seem to have gotten a bomb, so it must have been stolen at some point. I have no idea how though.

You know, for having been a mafia user for EVA, it's odd that I've never checked this myself, but; does mafia ever re-attempt do make any connections when previous attempts fail? If so, I could see mafia trying to get the bomb, thinking it timed out, and trying again. Of course, if you actually did get the bomb, the second try could be what screwed things up. Just a thought.
