BACK FROM THE DEAD UPDATE ( 20/4/08 ): Due to some wicked awesome collaborative spading going on between HCO and AFH, the guide will be able to be updated with current NS13 monster stat information. I'm still not back myself, just doing my job and keeping this guide updated with whats getting found, so don't thank me, thank Macman104 and QuantumNightmare for organising this project. I'd recommend to help out if you can, its pretty simple enough to do.

Stat update (05/5/08 ): Sorry for being slack and not keeping up, but the latest batch of stats has been updated. Whats new includes: Barrrney's Barrr, Fc'le, Post-war Junkyard, Post-war Sonofa Beach, Bat hole, Degrassi Knoll, Palindome, Post-cyrpt cemetary, Castle, Haunted conservatory, Is anyone even reading this, Haunted Library, Wine Cellar, Thungnerdome, Camp Logging Camp, South of the border, Ultra-hydrated desert, Pyramid and the Oasis.

Random update: I still hate the 8) smiley

Introduction
What the hell is this...?
This guide attempts to detail the exact value of various monster statistics, which can be used for a whole lot of things. There are also some formulas and other things combat-related at the end of the guide as well.

Monsters, like you, have stats. They have Attack, which determines how likely they are to hit you, and how hard. They have Defense, which determines how likely they are to dodge your attacks, and how much damage will be reduced by. They have HP, which means how much damage you need to inflict before they die. They also have Init, which short for Initiative, this determines their chances of getting the first attack

Monsters also give sub-stat points upon being killed. This is known as XP, which is the total amount of points they will give, which will be split 50/25/25 between your main-stat and off-stats. XP is calculated by Attack/4. If the result is not an even number, such as 7.5 XP, then there is a chance of getting an additional substat. In this case, you will get 7 XP half of the time, and 8 XP the other half, so on average the monster will give 7.5 XP

If you equip a item with the effect + x ML, or have an effect that does the same, then the monster’s HP, Atk, and Def will all rise by 1 per 1 ML. The rise in Attack also means their XP value will go up accordingly, by .25 XP per 1 ML. +ML does not affect a monster’s Init value.

If there is a ?? listed, it means that that value is unknown. If there is a value but with a ?, such as 17? XP, it means the value is unconfirmed, but is a best guess and probably correct.

There is also elemental properties to be aware of. A monster can be assigned an Elemental Defense, which will be shown by ED: and the appropriate element. They may also have a number of Elemental Attacks, which will be shown by EA: along with the % of their attacks that are of that element. If a monster has both ED and EA, E: will be shown instead, with the %’s of elemental attacks as well.

The little circles represent the elements, you have Hot (Fire), Stench (Stinky), Spooky (Spooky), Cold (Ice), and Sleazy (Sleazy). If you can't tell the difference, you can hover over the circle and you should get a little pop-up text with the name.

Without further crap, the list!

Monsters of Interest
This is a small listing of monsters that are a bit different than most, and need a little bit explained about them.

Status-attacks
These monsters, when they attack and succesfully hit you, have a chance of inflicting a status on you. Wearing a Giant Pinky Ring will reduce this chance by 75%. If you already have a status effect, you won't get any extra turns of it when you get attacked by a monster. The numbers in brackets are my rough estimates of the chances for an attack to give you a negative status.

Poison (10 Turns): Spectral Jellyfish (27%) , Big Creepy Spider, Completely Different Spider, Swarm of Killer Bees (30%), Mayonnaise Wasp, Whitesnake and Disease in the Box.
Teleportis (5 Turns): Quantum Mechanic (10%)
Confused: (10 Turns): Mind Flayer (40%)

Counter-attacks
These monsters, when hit with a melee attack, have a chance of giving you a nasty status effect in retaliation. Wearing a Giant Pinky Ring will reduce this chance by 75%. To avoid this, try attacking with Items or Skills (but not Melee skills).

Apathy (10 Turns): Apathetic Lizardman
Corroded-weapon (5 Turns): Acid Blob (56%)

Scaling monsters
Some monsters will not have a set Attack or Defense, they will instead have their stats scaled to yours. The exact mechanic is unknown, but generally their Attack will be your Moxie + x, their Defense will be your Muscle + x, and their HP is your HP + x.
Scaling monsters are un-affected by increases in ML. The monsters are have this effect are: Baron Von Ratsworth, Crimbo Factory Elves (currently extinct), Reindeer (currently extinct), Feast of Boris monsters, and the Naughty Sorceress herself.

MP Suck!
The Boss Bat, like the NS, has the ability to drain MP from you. He also turns the drained MP into HP for him, and he can go beyond his original starting HP value if he drains too much. The MP drain will take place of his normal attack.

Deleveller/Stunner List

This is a list of all the combat items/skills that can delevel (also known as debuff) or Stun a monster during combat. Note that delevelling during combat will not affect a monster's HP, or the XP it gives upon defeat.
Listed is how much each thing decreases monster level, and any additional effects. Stun % is the chance that the item will stop a monster from attacking that round, and Fail % is the chance the item will not work (and be consumed in the process).
Stun and Fail % are only approximations, and may not be fully correct, and some items may be less accurate due to lower sample size (see below chart)

7-Foot Dwarf Mattock = -8-16 per hit (NOT multipled by TS/LTS)
Barbed-Wire Fence = -1-7 ML, 36% Stun
Barrrnacle = -1 ML every 4 Pounds, may not activate at start of battle.
Cocoabo's Confusion = -ML = (Weight +1)/3, Limit Break Appears to double the result.
Chaos Butterfly = -16 to +17 Attack or Defense
Cloaca-cola Grenade = -2 Attack, 45-65 Damage
Dyspepsi-cola Grenade = -2 Attack, 45-65 Damage
Disco Eye-Poke = -1 ML, 1-3 Damage
Disco Dance of Doom = -3 ML, 4-6 Damage
Disco Dance II: Electric Boogaloo = -5 ML, 8-10 Damage
Disco Face Stab = -7 ML, 15-18 Damage
Disease = -2 ML, 48% Stun
Entangling Noodles = -6 Attack, 50% Stun
Kite = -12 ML, 100% Stun, 25% Fail
Knob Goblin stink bomb = -3 ML, 55% Stun
NPZR's Toast Attack = 100% Stun
Off-white plastic oyster egg = -7 ML, 50% stun
Plot Hole = -3-4 ML, 20-25 Damage, 66% Stun
Procrastination potion = 100% Stun, 25% Fail
Shaving Cream = -2-3 ML, 79% Stun
Spider web = -2 Attack, 58% Stun
Top = -6 ML
Vial of patchouli oil = -4 ML, 45% Stun
Wussiness Potion = -5 ML, 50% Stun
Yak Whip = -2-4 per hit (NOT multipled by TS/LTS)
Unionise the Elves Sign = -5-10 per hit (NOT multipled by TS/LTS)

(Sample sizes used to obtain rates)
100 for Shaving cream. 50 for Plot Hole. 107 for Disease. 25 for Kite. 104 for Spider Web. 100 for Vial. 100 for Wussines. 100 for Barbed Fence. 100 for Stink bomb. 10 for off-white plastic oyster egg

Battle Mechanics
This section will detail a few formulas and other things about how Combat works. Credit and thanks go to Crawly for most of this information

Hit -rate
Hit -rate is determined by comparing your 'Attack' stat to the monsters Defense, and the differential determines the hit-rate. Your Attack stat depends on what weapon/skills you've got, its just a name for whatever stat you're using to attack with. If you attack with Melee weapons, your Muscle is used. Attacking with Ranged weapons, Moxie is used. Attacking with Staves when you have either Spirit of Rigatoni or Special Sauce Glove, Mysticality is used.
Monsters just use their Attack stat. Your Defense is just your Moxie. This formula can be used both ways, for attacking and being attacked. Note that this formula assumes a linear scale, and is an approximation, some variance may apply.

Formula
( (Your Attack- Monster Defense) / 18 ) * 100 + 50 = %

So, we might have for example 154 Muscle, fighting something with 150 Defense.

( (154 - 150) / 18 ) * 100 + 50 = 72.2222 %

This formula assumes a scale of 18 points between 0% and 100% hit-rate.
When Attack = Defense, there is a 50% hit-rate. Every 1 point of Attack above Defense gives another 1/18, or 5.56% chance to hit. The same goes for the opposite, each 1 point less means 1/18 or 5.56% less chance. Thus, having 9 more Moxie than an opponent's Attack will give you a 0% chance of being hit.

Damage

These two formulae are for player damage to monsters.

Melee weapons
10-20% of Weapon Damage + (Player Muscle - Monster Defense) +/- Melee Damage + Elemental Damage = Total Damage

Note that when using TS/LTS/LS, everything except the (Player Muscle - Monster Defense) and Elemental part is tripled, and not the Total Damage. Elemental damage will be doubled or reduced to 1, depending on the monster's resistances/weaknesses.

Ranged Weapons
10-20% of Weapon Damage + (1/2*Player Muscle - Monster Defense) +/- Melee Damage + Elemental Damage = Total Damage

The Ranged Weapon damage is just the same, except using half your Muscle.

The following formula is the Monster damage formula, used to figure out how badly you're going to be hurt.

Monster Attack
(Monster Attack - Player Moxie) + 100-125% of Monster XP = Total Damage

If you have the Hero of the Halfshell skill and are wearing a shield, Muscle is used instead of Moxie. The Total damage is then reduced by your level of DA and Elemental resistance. Its not currently known where Damage Reduction from Shields or Skin of the Leatherback come in.

Criticals and Fumbles
This section courtesy of Smidge. This is mostly in his words too

Critical hits
Base chance: 1/11 or 9.09% chance

Multipliers: Multiply the base critical hit chance by whatever number they say. Only the highest critical hit multiplier applies.

Eye of the Stoat: Adds an extra 1/22 chance of critical hit, or +4.54% chance.

Fumbles
Base chance: 1/22 or 4.54% chance.

Multipliers: Multiply base fumble rate. Probably work the same as critical hit multipliers.

Eye of the Stoat: Half fumble chance, meaning 1/44 or 2.27% chance.

Critical/Fumbe Damage

In the damage equation, the amount of damage you get from a weapon is 10%-(20% +1), and a Critical just doubles that roll. So an Asbestos Sword with a power of 100 would give 10-21 damage, on a critical, that would be 20-42. Note that TS and LTS will also triple this, so a TS Critical will be 40-84, and an LTS Critical will do 60-126.

Fumble damage is merely 1-10% Weapon Power.

Damage Absorption

Damage Absorption is how much damage is absorbed by your armour and any protection you have. Damage absorption is the total Power of your Armour + Pants + Shirt, and any +Damage Absorption effects/buffs or skills you have active.

Major thanks to Crawly for this formula, and Stoop and CDMoyer by extension.

Formula:

Table:
0, 10 absorption: no damage reduction
040: 10% reduction
090: 20% reduction
160: 30% reduction
250: 40% reduction
360: 50% reduction
490: 60% reduction
640: 70% reduction
810: 80% reduction
1000 (or more - this is the cap): 90% reduction

Initiative (work in progress)
(This section is currently still under work, but this is what is known so far. This section in N3RD's words)

Each monster in the kingdom has an associated initiative value. This value is constant each time we encounter that monster. It is in fact affected by monster level according to the equation below.

Whether or not you get the jump on a monster is influenced by your raw mainstat. Apparently buffing your mainstat has no effect whatsoever on initiative.

The Zodiac sign Wallaby though long rumored to increase initiative does not in fact do so.

Only items or skills that boost initiative itself will affect your chance to run away. Having enough mainstat to always get the jump will not guarantee your ability to run away.

167 in your mainstat is enough to always get the jump on yetis. +60% initiative and 0 mainstat is also enough to always get the jump on yetis. This implies that you have a base 40% chance of getting the jump on the yetis and increasing the odds of that varies according to the following equation. The init value for yetis is 60.

The equation for calculating the chance of you getting initiative is currently believed to be.

I think its just a flat -5 to Familiar Level.

It would be easy to test with a 10 Pound Ballon Monkey though.

Yay, the prize!

The familiar curse, it's just -5, really? Is that yet another reason why the dodecapede is just so very handy against the Sorceress?

Do you really think Jick wouldn't have coded an exception for that thing? =p

It might even be something else like reduced activation rates or lower hit rates/damage or something. I should ask AT to have a look at that as well...

The chances of a dev member willingly telling some random guy the mechanics behind the game is rather.... meh, it just won't happen.

If they did, i would have bribed one to give me complete monster stats for everything by now =p

You might, but someone else isn't. I got a reporting at 65.

So, you do still have a 5.56% chance to get hit, even though it may not seem like it.

I always used to be fine at the Boss Bat with 35, and thats a whopping 50% chance to be hit. RNG is funny.

The penguins seemed to be around 18 XP, but it was hard to tell for sure because it was muscle day. Emaciated Yetis are lower. I'll try to check again and be more precise.

Hit by a mech at 135 moxie, with MCD 6, so new moxie should be 130.

All of the penguins are 18 or 19 from what I've noticed actually, I've gotten 18 from all three and 19 from all three.

I found these values by fighting without a weapon and with different combinations of flaming talons and symphony and counting damage needed.

Emaciated yeti: 49-52 HP (Probably 50)
Mob penguin pasta chef: 79-84 HP (Probably 80)
Mob penguin thug: 79-80HP (Probably 80)
Mob penguin soprano: 89-90 HP (probably 90)
